    Smith Has Successful Surgery
Milwaukee Bucks forward Joe Smith had successful arthroscopic surgery Friday, June 30th to remove loose cartilage in his right knee, General Manager Larry Harris announced today. The surgery was performed by Bucks team orthopaedic physician, Dr. John Heinrich, M.D., at the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin.

Capuano turns in All-Star effort as Brewers blank
Chris Capuano showed the National League All-Star team exactly what they will be missing with a complete game shutout as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Chicago Cubs 2-0 on Thursday at Miller Park.

Capuano (10-4), who earlier in the day lost out to Los Angeles Dodgers Nomar Garciaparra in final voting for the last spot in Tuesday's mid-Summer Classic, scattered six hits while striking out six with no walks.

The win extended the Brewers' unbeaten run to four games.

"I'm just done thinking about it (All-Star game) and I want to get back to work," Capuano told MLB.com. "If it happens, great, but I'm much more concerned about what's happening in our clubhouse.

"I was just happy the thing was over.

"No one can argue with the guy who was picked. Nomar is having an unbelievable year right now, so I'm happy for him."

The hard-throwing lefthander has yet to yield a run in 26 innings in three starts against Chicago this season, stretching his own personal win streak over the Cubs to 5-0.

It was the second complete game of Capuano's career -- both coming against the Cubs.

The Brewers scored all the runs they would need in the fifth inning on Rickie Weeks' RBI double and a Geoff Jenkins RBI single to send the slumping Cubs to their sixth defeat in eight games.

    Cubs-Brewers Preview

The Milwaukee Brewers set high expectations after opening the season with five straight wins for the first time in 19 years. After passing the halfway point of the season, though, they have yet to match that win streak.

With three games to go before the All-Star break, the Brewers have a chance for that elusive fifth straight win Friday when they continue their series against the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park.

Milwaukee (44-43) opened the four-game series against the Cubs (31-54) with a 2-0 victory behind a five-hitter by Chris Capuano.

Thursday's win lifted the Brewers back over .500 for the first time since May 29, and they have won four straight games for the first time since May 14-18. They are 2 1/2 games behind first-place St. Louis in the NL Central, and one-half game behind second-place Cincinnati.

Geoff Jenkins went 2-for-4 with a RBI on Thursday, and is batting .524 (11-for-21) with one homer and five RBIs in five games in July.

''Jenks gets hot, and when he gets hot, he can put a lot of offense on the board,'' Brewers manager Ned Yost said. ''He's really been doing a nice job for us.''

Left fielder Carlos Lee is 12-for-32 (.375) with four home runs, three doubles and six RBIs in eight games against Chicago this season, and is 11-for-30 (.367) with four homers, four doubles and 11 RBIs in his career against Cubs scheduled starter Carlos Zambrano (7-3, 3.33 ERA).

Zambrano tries to win his sixth straight road start, but he'll have to do it at a stadium he has not had much success at lately. The mercurial right-hander - who is 5-0 with a 2.32 ERA in eight road starts this season - has a 1.96 ERA during his road win streak, but has lost three straight starts at Miller Park, posting a 7.98 ERA in those games.

He is 6-6 with a 4.20 ERA in 14 career games against Milwaukee, and 2-4 with a 4.46 ERA in six starts at Miller Park.

Zambrano can also win his fifth straight overall decision with a win Friday. The 25-year-old right-hander is 4-0 with a 3.16 ERA in his last six starts, and is 7-1 with a 2.76 ERA in his last 11 contests.

He matched a season high by allowing seven runs while giving up seven hits in six innings on Sunday, but still managed to get the win in a 15-11 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

''We have to finish the first half strong, forget about what happened in the first half and get ready for the second half,'' said Zambrano, who will be on the National League All-Star team Tuesday.

The Cubs have lost 11 of their last 14 games, and have scored just five runs in their last four.

Chicago has lost six of eight to Milwaukee this season, and eight of its last 11 at Miller Park.

Zach Jackson (1-1, 6.11) makes his sixth career start Friday, trying to bounce back from the worst start of his rookie season. The 23-year-old allowed season highs of eight runs and three walks in five innings of a 8-0 loss Sunday to Minnesota.

''That's not my game. I'm not a big walk guy,'' said Jackson, who walked just three batters total in his first four starts. ''I need to have control and I wasn't able to do that today.''

The left-hander has no record with a 3.48 ERA in two starts and three appearances at Miller Park. Jackson allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2-3 innings in his only career game against the Cubs, an 8-5 Brewers victory on June 27 in which he did not factor in the decision.
